Meet Dr. Apton

Dr. Michael Apton has been in orthodontic practice in Stony Brook since 1973. He received his dental degree from Columbia University in 1968. Following graduation he interned at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City, followed by two years of military service at the U.S. Army War College. After these 3 years of general dental experience, he entered Columbia University's postgraduate orthodontic program.

Upon completion of the postgraduate orthodontic program, Dr. Apton moved with his family to the Three Village area and began orthodontic practice.

Currently Dr. Apton holds teaching appointments at NYU Dental School, Department of Postgraduate Orthodontics, and Stony Brook University School of Dental Medicine. He is an attending orthodontist at Mather, St. Charles, and Stony Brook University Hospitals. He is a member of the following organizations: College of Diplomates, Life Active Member of the American Association of Orthodontists, American Dental Association, Suffolk County Dental Society, Northeastern Society of Orthodontists, and the World Federation of Orthodontists. Dr. Apton participates in Smiles Change Lives. His special interests include "Early Interventive Orthodontic Care", which he has lectured on extensively as well as the Invisalign appliance. Dr. Apton most recently lectured to 300 orthodontists on the Invisalign technique at the Greater New York Dental Meeting. He is the director of Invisalign at NYU, as well as a National Speaker on the Invisalign technique. He presently certifies the Orthodontic Postgraduate residents in the TriState area in Invisalign.

Dr. Apton and his wife, Helen, are the parents of three daughters - Nicole, Elisabeth, and Deborah - and proud grandparents of Benjamin, Sara, Emma, Jacob, Caroline, Aaron and Eli.

Dr. Apton enjoys golf, woodworking, photography, computers, skiing, and theater. He is most happy to discuss these interests at any time.
